Job Offers

 You’ve got a job offer.

Perhaps you’ve got two job offers.

Weigh up everything carefully.

Did you like the people you met? Can you see yourself fitting in? Do the hours suit you? Is the journey managable? Are you happy with the money?

You may really need a job but if your instincts are telling you that all is not right with this job offer then it probably isn’t.

If you cant really see yourself being happy in the role or with the company then don’t take it any further. It’s no good taking a job and then wishing you hadn’t and being miserable. You spend most of your time at work so it’s important you enjoy it.

After all, while you’re hating every minute of it your perfect job may be advertised and you miss it. Then you’ve missed out on a job offer that would have had you jumping for joy.

Accepting The Job

If all is well, accept the job verbally.

They should send you a formal written offer and a contract outlining the terms of your employment.

Read it carefully. It there is anything that differs from your understanding of the offer, speak to them and have them send you a new letter and contract.

There may be nothing sinister in this. If it’s a big HR department, they may simply have sent you the wrong letter.

Many companies big and small have a staff handbook. Read it through. If there is anything in there that you don’t understand or have a problem with, again, speak to the company. However, fundamental company practices are unlikely to be changed just to suit one individual.

Follow up your verbal acceptance in a formal letter of acceptance.
